So Let's Root, Root, Root for the Home Team...
The Yankees will forever be John's baseball team, and Sarah will forever love going to games at Fenway, but we both have adopted the Washington Nationals as our Home Team during our time living in DC. We enjoy having the game on TV at home during the summer, but really enjoy leaving work and walking a few blocks down the street to the now four-year-old stadium. Nationals Park is wonderfully designed with great walking spaces, views of the Capitol Building and Washington Monument, delicious food, and barely a bad seat in the house (believe us, we've tried just about everywhere but behind homeplate!). It's no "Cathedral", but with it's relaxed atmosphere and relatively inexpensive price of admission, it's a great place to spend a summer day or night.
We set a new personal record this year, going 8-1 in the nine home games we attended. We managed to see a game in each month of the season including back-to-back shutouts against the Giants and back-to-back wins against the Orioles during the annual "Battle of the Beltway" in June. We look forward to another season next year and are working on our pitch to the Nationals front office for free season tickets since our winning percentage this year translates to a 72-9 home record (all logical probability aside, of course). We also like introducing new folks to the ballpark, so if you ever find yourself down in the DC area during the summer months and are interested, let us know!
